Elements of a Great Massage Include Essential Oils

Have you thought of all the sensory elements that combine to create a relaxing and therapeutic massage?
First, of course, is the sense of touch, which a skilled therapist uses to release muscle tension and increase circulation, among multiple benefits. Additional elements that help you relax include reduced lighting, perfect room temperature, and soothing music.

Beyond these enhancements, essential plant oils help bring the experience to a level that’s difficult to explain, as each oil has its own benefit and affects everyone a bit differently. When used correctly and safely, essential oils have been found to provide both psychological and physical benefits through their aromas.

Each oil is a pure plant essence, not a drug; so don't expect any type of hallucinogenic experience. However, essential oils affect brain receptors in positive ways. Because their aromas have therapeutic effects, we call the use of essential oils aromatherapy. Despite their earth-based origins, when oils are added to a massage, the results can be heavenly.

Watch for the next article, which explains how a massage therapist can use essential oils in a massage and the specific benefits of various oils.
